According to reports, Manchester United has reached an agreement on a five-year deal with Rasmus Hojlund.
The Red Devils have been active in the transfer market this summer, securing the signings of midfielder Mason Mount and goalkeeper Andre Onana. However, their focus now is on bringing in a new center-forward before the upcoming season kicks off.
According to recent statements by Erik ten Hag, there has been progress in talks with Manchester United to sign a new striker. The Dutchman is optimistic that a deal can be finalized soon.
Numerous names have been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford, but it appears that Denmark international Rasmus Hojlund has emerged as their primary target for the striker position.
Despite their efforts, Manchester United has faced challenges in their pursuit of top strikers like Harry Kane, Randal Kolo Muani, Victor Osimhen, and Kylian Mbappe, who seems financially out of reach for them.
Instead, the 20-year-old Hojlund is high on United’s agenda, and they have engaged in discussions with Atalanta regarding his availability. However, negotiations have hit a snag over the transfer fee, as Manchester United is unwilling to pay more than £60m, while Atalanta values him around £85m.
Nevertheless, journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that personal terms have been agreed upon between Hojlund and Manchester United. The Dane is set to sign a five-year contract until the summer of 2028, with an option to extend for an additional 12 months.
While a formal offer is expected to be tabled by Manchester United soon, they are not willing to go beyond the €90m to €100m range.
Manchester United has already spent over £100m on Mount and Onana, and they are being cautious about adhering to Financial Fair Play rules. To boost their transfer budget, they might consider selling some players, with reports suggesting that four players could be on their way out this summer.
Hojlund has risen as one of Europe’s brightest attacking prospects, impressing with 12 goals in 21 games during a spell at Austrian side Sturm Graz in 2022. Atalanta acquired him for around £15m last summer, and his stock has continued to rise, netting 10 goals in 34 appearances during his debut season with the club, including eight goals in Serie A during the second half of the campaign.
The young forward, who has also been linked with PSG, is currently under contract with Atalanta until June 2027.
